The annual football spectacle tourney, Koth-Biro, will have a presumably entertaining final showdown this afternoon at Ziwani grounds. The tournament now in its 46th edition, has over the years converged the creme in Kenya’s football and this afternoon’s showdown between finalists Ruaraka all-stars locking horns with Dallas Fc is no mean feat.
According to the tournament’s organizer Paul ‘namba tano’ Polosa, the finals are slated to kick off at 2pm. We’ve had a couple of challenges since the Covid 19 epidemic started that also got us struggling for sponsorship,” he said.
According to Polosa, their woes backdate to last year’s winners who never received their 300,000 kshs cash award despite posing with a dummy cheque after their win. “Since Sportpesa withdrew its operations from the country citing friction with the Government, no monies were paid. However, this year Betmoto has come to our rescue and facilitated for the tournament which has gone a long way,” he revealed.
This year’s winners will bag 75.000ksh, 50,000ksh for second place and 25,000ksh for their place. The tournament, which attracts hundreds of football fans from across the county has since its inception produced some of the country’s football greats.
Local leaders including Starehe Member of Parliament Jaguar are expected to be in attendance with word rife that former Nairobi’s governor Mike Sonko could make an appearance.
