Tension and running battles marked the end of the annual pre-season Koth-Biro tournament yesterday in Ziwani’s umeme grounds as Ruaraka All stars clashed with Dallas Fc. The well attended finals saw the Muthurwa based Dallas fc edge out Ruaraka All stars 9 – 8 in post match penalties after a barren draw in normal play.
Both teams seemed equal in defense muscle with the goalkeepers making valuable saves in the balanced encounter. However, after colliding with Ruaraka All stars attackers in the early minutes of the second half, Dallas Fc goalkeeper gave in to an injury sustained in the first half to a substitution.
Backed by their raving fans, Dallas Fc seemed to be calm while taking a shot from the spot only for Ruaraka Fc fans to storm the pitch mid the penalty shoots that resulted to running battles after the local based team retorted in fury. Play continued after the running battles were over, with Dallas crowned the eventual winners.
In the playoffs played earlier, Mwiki based Terror Squad were thrashed 3 goals only responding once by Asec Huruma who took third place, This year’s tourney was sponsored by Betmoto with the winners walking away with a meagre 75,000 kshs.
The first runners up scooped 50,000 kshs while third place managed a 25,000 kshs consolation. There was fan fury after the near no presence by politicians who shunned away from the event. “It’s ok they did not come to support the tournament but during the electioneering time they all flock the stadium.
It’s a lesson we have learnt that we can conduct the event without their support,” a fan was heard saying.nSome of the football greats present included Mathew Ottamax and Sir Bobby Ogola, “We are appealing for more support from the corporates as running this without support is really draining,” said event organiser Paul ‘number tano’ Polosa. No casualties were reported.
