Malawi went back to the Ballot on 23th June 2020 to elect the President after the May 2019 Presidential election was NULLIFIED in February 2020 by the High Court sitting in Lilongwe, and the Supreme Court upheld the decision in April.
Malawi’s Opposition Candidate Rev. Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has won the RE-RUN ELECTION by gannering 59% against the incumbent Prof. Peter Auther Mutharika who got 39% of the the votes cast.
The incumbent Prof. Peter Mutharika who is the 5th President of Malawi is the brother to the 3rd President of Malawi Dr. Bingu wa Mutharika who was in office from 2004 till his death in 2012. Professor Mutharika had trounced Dr. Joyce Banda in the 2014 Tripartite Elections.

Now, in the just concluded RE-RUN, Professor Mutharika picked Mr. Atupele Muluzi as his running mate. Mr. Atupele Muluzi is the son of the 2nd President of Malawi, Mr. Bakili Muluzi who reigned between 1994 to 2004 after trouncing the founding father of Malawi, Hasting Kamuzu Banda. So, the duo were the DYNASTIES
Rev. Dr. Chakwera who has won the election is a son of a peasant farmer in Lilongwe District, a hustler and a former Bishop with Malawi Assemblies of God (MAG) Church, before he went into politics in 2013 and came in 2nd after Mutharika.
Rev. Chakwera’s running mate is the immediate former Vice President, Dr. Saulos Chilima who feel out with Prof. Mutharika after the later failed to honour a gentleman’s agreement they had in 2014 that Mutharika would support Chilima in 2019. In the last 2 years (between 2017 and 2019) Dr. Chilima was sidelined from Government and also from the ruling Democratic Progressives Party (DPP).
In the just concluded RE-RUN, most international observers didn’t manage to oversee the election off-course due to COVID-19 among other issues.
The commissioners of the Malawi Electoral Commission which is overseeing the current RE-REN were appointed three weeks ago, after the Chairperson who oversaw the 2019 elections resigned in May 2020.
The opposition has WON even though it didn’t have the DEEP STATE or the STATE MACHINERY; but had the PEOPLE. The POWER of the PEOPLE is stronger than any DEEP STATE.
