In Nigeria, the Sokoto Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, arrested two Chinese nationals, Mr. Meng Wei Kun and Mr. Xu Koi for offering a sum of N100, 000,000(A Hundred Million Naira only) as bribe to its Zonal Head, Mr. Abdullahi Lawal.
In a statement released by EFCC and signed by its spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, on Tuesday, the suspects were arrested on Monday in Sokoto, with the cash as evidence.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said the bribe was offered in an attempt to compromise ongoing investigations of China Zhonghao Nig. Ltd, a construction company handling contracts awarded by the Zamfara local Government between 2012 to 2019.
The Sokoto Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had since commenced an investigation into the developer in connection with the execution of contracts awarded for the construction of township roads in Nassarawa, Gummi, Anka, and Bukkuyun towns of the State.
The authorities also launched Another investigation into the construction of 168 solar-powered boreholes 14 local government areas of the state.
The commission said the investigation of the construction company was informed by an intelligence on alleged conspiracy, misappropriation of public funds, official corruption embezzlement, stealing, abuse of office, and money laundering obtained against the Zamfara local government through inflated and uncompleted contracts awarded to the developer.
To trap the corrupt China Zhonghao Nig. Ltd officials, Lawal played along, and on Monday, two representatives of the developer Meng Wei Kun and Xu Kuoi offered him cash totaling a hundred million naira in their office along airport road, Sokoto. The cash was to be the first installment.
The Chinese suspects are to be arraigned in court soon.
